When it comes to weight loss, we have all heard, you need diet and exercise.  While most of us hear it, we don’t want to believe it.  Diet and exercise are two things most people don’t want to adhere too.  However, this is the only way that you will become healthy and lean. Now, there are all kinds of crazy diets out there.  But the bottom line is that you need to take in fewer calories than you burn.  Or, at the very least, as many as you burn.  This will lead to weight loss or at the very least weight plateau.   Sometimes there are simple tricks to this that can help though as well.  Sure, we all know that exercise is good for our bodies, but while you are exercising, you are building up muscles.  Those muscles are burning more calories than the fat they replaced.  This can lead to an additional weight loss, without really trying.

When you are looking at weight loss, the amount of calorie intake is important.  It is far easier to lose weight by eating properly.  As it takes 30 mins of rough spin time to lose 500 calories for example.  But, if you would just choose to eat a carrot over a hamburger, you would have saved yourself those 500 calories easier.

Larger Muscle Mass will Burn more Calories

However, being physically fit helps with many things.  This helps you have more energy, larger muscle mass and more.  But the biggest benefit is that the larger muscle mass will help you burn more calories, even when you are not working out.  10 lbs. of muscle burns approx. 50 calories while at rest per day, while fat only burns approx. 20 calories.  Therefore, weightlifters have a harder time putting on weight and can eat more calories but still maintain a lean body.  When they use their muscles, they are burning more calories by lifting the weights.

When lifting weights, you are building muscles.  This uses calories to build but not as much as say a cardio exercise that uses the entire body and builds muscles.  So, you need to decide what is best for you and what you are trying to achieve.  Weight training also helps build the body back up, strengthening bones and connective tissue as well as building muscle.  This is all very important when you are looking to improve your health.

Sure, having larger muscle mass burns more calories overall, even while at rest.  But, the main thing is that you need to regularly eat healthily and exercise to maintain a healthy weight.  This is something that many people don’t do, as you can see from the masses.  Take the time to take care of your body and your health.  This will give you a more fulfilling lifestyle and more energy to live that life.  Be sure that you are taking time off from a rigorous exercise routine as well, to give you body the proper rest it needs to repair and recover.
