Whey Protein For Muscle Growth

Taking whey protein for muscle growth will not only help with growth but also help you with endurance and decrease muscle breakdown.  It is a healthy way to give your body what it needs.  Whey protein comes from cow milk.  Yep, cow’s milk.  Whey is in a lot of dairy products, as it is a part of milk.  Have you ever opened a yogurt cup and saw a liquid on the top of the cream?  That’s whey! When we make cheese, we separate the solids from the whey.  During the cheese-making process the solids are what they are after.  For the longest time, they would throw out the whey.  Don’t mind our ancestors, they weren’t as knowledgeable as we are now.

Once we get the whey out, it then needs to go through a bit more of a manufacturing process that filters out fat and carbs and all you are left with is Whey.

There are 3 types of whey protein.  Whey protein:

  • concentrate
  • isolate (WPI)
  • Hydrolysate

Those are listed in the order of concentration.  The Whey Protein Concentrate is not as filtered and costs less but has less protein concentration.  Whey Protein Hydrolysate is the richest in protein concentration and therefore it is the most expensive.  All of them are good for you, just depends on your budget.  Hydrolysis comes easier to digest as well as it goes through a process that makes the protein easier for the body to break down.

How Whey affects the body

Which type of whey is up to you.  However, it certainly is one of the best sources of protein supplements out on the market today.  There are countless studies that have been done on the effects of whey on the body.  Protein supplements such as soy or casein, although both a great source, are harder to digest and don’t hit your body in the same fashion as whey protein.  The goal of using whey protein is to stimulate muscle protein synthesis.  This is the process the body needs to go through to, well, build muscle.

It has also been proven that whey protein boosts blood flow to the muscles, which aid in protein synthesis. This enhanced blood flow is good for the entire body as it delivers much needed nutrients and oxygen to the muscles.

Whey is not only great for building muscles, but it is helpful in trimming the fat as well.  Studies have proven that whey is great for weight loss.

The best time to consume whey is 15-30 mins before your workout and 30 mins after.  This is all about the digestion of the whey and how it works in the body.   Protein is the first thing you need to consider when you are looking to build up muscle and burn fat.  With proper training, diet and exercise whey will help you get the body you desire.
